R&D Director, WOM

We are building a new team able to deliver and participate in complex system designs of embedded medical devices used in the operating rooms globally. We are looking for talented, competent and motivated teammates who will partner together across the competence domains in order to deliver high-quality medical devices enhancing and saving people’s lives.

The products team will work on complex embedded medical devices developed in alignment with the required medical standards. The scale of the technologies we are dealing with is very wide. From application software hosted on Real-Time Operating Systems down to the hardware abstraction software, firmware and hardware as well.

The successful candidate will become a member of our Novanta R&D center in Brno which is providing a wide range of R&D services for various business units in Novanta. Brno designs full systems end to end from requirements definition up to production handover and lifecycle maintenance as well as platform component of bigger system and related critical competences expertise for global product development teams like WOM. Main Responsibility

  • Responsibility for execution of the World of Medicine R&D operations located in Brno, Czech Republic.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, site leadership and business partners on the successful delivery of the comprehensive medical designs.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the designs, quality of the products and meeting the project schedules.
  • Responsible for proper team execution per Quality Management System requirements, methodically identifies problematic areas, identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Manage and lead a team of project managers and system architects.
  • Identify needs for the development of team members. Initiate personal development plans.
  • Participation in annual budget planning and investment planning.
  • Active participation in the innovation process.
  • Drive optimized development processes focused on quality and maintainability.
  • Drive team’s ownership for project and other activities execution by overseeing design quality and schedule.
  • Plan and monitor activities within the team.
  • Coordination of team resources together with Site management and competence managers.
  • Maintain environment focused on cooperation, quality, and delivery inside the local engineering team as well as with global cross-functional teams and partners.
  • R&D director reports to the Brno R&D site lead.

Requirements

  • Experience in human resource management and project management.
  • Experience with driving cross-functional engineering teams on complex electronic device development in a regulated environment.
  • Leadership skills (trustworthiness, positivity, responsibility, flexibility, motivation).
  • Good written and spoken English knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advantages:
    • SAP knowledge,
    • medical device regulations,
    • MS Project or other project management, tools,
    • spoken German knowledge.
