The GL Accountant will perform all general ledger responsibilities for all the Novanta EMEA legal entities. These include legal entities in Germany, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. This position will report directly to the CZ Accounting Manager & Site Leader in Brno.
Perform monthly closes in accordance with the Corporate closing calendar
Collaborate and work closely with accounting/finance representatives in each EMEA country to record accurate journal entries in the GL to reflect the business activities timely in accordance with Novanta accounting policies/procedures and US GAAP.
Responsible for the AR and AP subledger to GL reconciliations, Intercompany reconciliations, prepaid and accrual GL account reconciliations.
Maintain fixed assets details and related journal entries and reconciliations.
Perform monthly HFM related tasks, such as rollforwards and statistical entries (e.g. Headcount reporting)
Maintain strong internal controls as stated in our SOX narratives and ensure contemporaneous documentation/signoffs are obtained and maintained on file
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and other analysis to ensure accurate and timely financial closing each month
Guide the financial SSC EMEA team and take a lead role to improve the current SSC processes. Become the go-to person for questions of the SSC EMEA AP Accountant and the SSC EMEA AR & Cash Accountant. Answer questions on transaction processing and account coding.
Assist in updating the SOX narratives for EMEA periodically in order to ensure they’re up-to-date
Special projects such as accounting system conversion/upgrades and integration of new businesses or legal entities into the EMEA SSC, as needed
Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies:
Relevant GL Accounting Experience for at least two years in a comparable role in a multinational company (ideally U.S. based)
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Czech (German would be a plus)
Able to work on own initiative, self-starter, high level of work quality and attention to details
Excellent computer skills (advanced Excel, ORACLE and Hyperion preferred)
Broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices (US GAAP would be a plus)
Extensive familiarity with internal accounting controls and objectives
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and work well under pressure
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others from multiple locations
Strong personal and professional ethical values; impeccable integrity
